Write Tags
Validated first, reported per file, and undoable afterwards.
Organize metadata and artwork across entire libraries with batch editing, rules, chapters, preflight and undo.
Notalis is a metadata workstation for audio and video collections. It combines direct field editing with reviewed batch operations, complete artwork collections, filename automation, catalog identification, library analysis, lyrics, chapters, loudness measurement and guarded automation.
Its principle is a single path to the file. Edits, artwork, lyrics, rules, imports and analysis results are proposals until they enter one staged review, and a write is checked before it begins and can be undone after it ends.

Editing
Open files, folders or playlists, check the rows that belong to the work, and edit one file with precision or many together. In Batch Mode only the fields you deliberately change are applied; an untouched blank never becomes a clear.
- Batch and per-file
- Shared values across the checked files, or a separate staged state for each.
- Fields
- Five configurable sections: core, credits, release, identifiers and sorting, and technical values including ReplayGain.
- Native tags
- Custom and format-specific entries for ID3v2, Vorbis comments, APEv2, MP4, ASF and Matroska.
- Search
- File names and metadata expressions with Boolean operators, presence checks, comparisons and guarded regular expressions.
Review Before Write
The change set shows each file and each value that will change. Write Tags validates scope and eligibility first, reports failures per file, and preserves the fields, extended values and artwork it was not asked to touch.
- Staging
- Editor values, artwork, catalog choices, lyrics, ReplayGain, rules and imports all pass through one review.
- Undo and redo
- Up to twenty levels, capturing metadata, extended fields and the complete ordered artwork collection before each write.
- Process log
- A record of what was done, when, and with what result, with filters and selectable columns.
- Refusal over loss
- Where a container cannot hold a value, the operation is disabled rather than silently dropping data.
Identification
Auto Tag searches the Arctisoft Catalogue using existing tags, file names and track durations, or maps an album to the tracks of a chosen release. It shows its confidence, its evidence and its conflicts, and stages nothing until you accept it. Auto Tag Library identifies every album of a library in one run.
Auto Tag needs a signed-in Free or Premium account; account quotas apply and no catalog download is required.
| Source | Used for |
|---|---|
| Arctisoft Catalogue | Recordings, releases, editions and track mapping, built from MusicBrainz core data and Discogs genres and styles, both CC0 |
| Cover Art Archive and iTunes | Optional front covers, back covers and booklet images, previewed before staging |
| LRCLIB | Plain and synchronized lyrics, on request |
Autopilot and Library Care
Autopilot takes a folder through identification, repair, covers, lyrics and duplicates in one run and reports what it did. Clean & Organize, which it is built on, applies what is certain and leaves what is uncertain for review. Library Health examines a collection and changes nothing.
- Clean & Organize
- Analysis, conflict review, destination review and commit are separate steps. A commit creates backups and rolls back if a later step fails.
- Duplicates by sound
- An MP3 copy of a FLAC is recognized as the same recording; the weaker copy can be moved to a quarantine folder, never deleted.
- Library Health
- Unreadable tags, missing fields, album inconsistencies, numbering gaps, artwork differences, moved files and duplicates.
- Persistent libraries
- Chosen folders indexed locally, with named layouts for columns, order and sorting.
Text, Patterns and Rules
The tools for correcting a thousand files as carefully as one. Each builds a preview of every proposed change before anything is staged.
- Find and replace
- Literal or regular-expression replacement, whole-word matching, prefixes and suffixes, case conversion and whitespace normalization.
- File patterns
- Tags from file names, file names from tags, and rearrangement of existing name parts, with collision checks and rollback.
- Rule Studio
- Conditions combined with All or Any, ordered actions each with its own condition, and rules that run saved rules after them.
- Expressions
- Fields, file properties, string operations, comparisons, arithmetic and Boolean logic in one expression language.
Artwork, Chapters, Lyrics and Loudness
The parts of a file beyond its text fields, handled with the same staging and the same care.
- Artwork
- Every embedded picture in stored order: add, replace, reorder, describe, inspect, export and remove without flattening the rest.
- Chapters
- Validated chapter editing for Matroska, WebM, MP4, M4V and MOV; chapter lists imported and exported as timed lists, cue sheets, Audacity labels, Ogg chapters and FFmpeg metadata.
- Lyrics
- Plain and synchronized lyrics, ranked by metadata and duration, staged or exported as TXT or LRC.
- Loudness and ReplayGain
- True peak and loudness range by ITU-R BS.1770-4 and EBU Tech 3342; ReplayGain 2 track and album gains toward −18, −23, −16 or −14 LUFS, staged as tags without altering the audio.
- Delivery Check
- A release judged as a whole against built-in and up to 24 of your own profiles. Profiles state what is checked; they do not certify a file for a store.
Transfer and Studio Automation
Metadata enters and leaves in open formats, and the same engine runs unattended for studio libraries. In Premium, jobs are set up, run and scheduled hourly or daily in the application, or run from the command line. An automated job is review-only until a write is explicitly permitted twice: in the job, and again when it is started.
- Import
- Reviewed CSV and line-pattern text import, with matched, skipped and preserved values reported.
- Export
- CSV, JSON, HTML, tab-separated text and M3U playlists, written atomically.
- Automation
- Dry-run, commit and watch-folder jobs of up to 500 files per transaction, with backups and SHA-256 evidence of source and output.
- Privacy
- Editing works without an account. Optional preference sync is off by default.

What Notalis needs
- Operating system
- Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
- Runtime
- Included with the installer; nothing else to install
- Internet
- Only for Auto Tag, lyrics and cover search, signing in and updates. Files are edited on your computer.
Installs for your Windows user account, so no administrator rights are needed. Updates are taken only from the application's official releases and checked against the SHA-256 digest recorded for them.
Metadata, artwork and chapter support depends on the media container.
Can a batch edit be undone?
Yes. Supported writes capture the previous metadata and artwork first, and up to twenty levels are kept. Undo is a recovery feature and not a substitute for independent backups of valuable media.
Does Notalis change my audio?
No. It writes metadata. ReplayGain analysis stages tags only; the audio is neither normalized nor re-encoded.
Do I need an account?
The tag editor works without an account. Auto Tag and Premium need you to sign in. Optional preference sync is off by default.
What does Premium add?
The free edition includes the complete tag editor, artwork, change review, undo, Auto Tag for single files, and tools for your own data. Premium applies the results of Autopilot and Clean & Organize, Rule Studio, Auto Tag for whole releases and libraries, ReplayGain values and chapter writing, and adds further libraries, your own mappings and delivery profiles, and Studio Automation. Every Premium workflow can be opened and previewed in the free edition.
Is Premium a subscription?
No. Premium is bought once and licensed perpetually. Updates within the current major version are included.
On how many computers can I use my license?
A Premium license is for one person and works on up to three computers at the same time. Premium keeps working offline for 30 days at a time. The computers are listed in Studio Hub, where you can release one to use the license on another.
Can I try Premium first?
Yes. Signed in, you can use Premium for 14 days on one computer, without payment details. A trial can be started once per product, account and computer.
